Yeah, Yeah. Shut Up Elf.
Elysion Perspective — Part 1: Prequel

I want to write an articulate post talking about things that bug me the more I think about the Shitennou and Silver Millennium situation. Not completely damning, but it’s some stuff that strikes me as kind of not right and fair in the villainization/death of the four generals.

You know how the US regularly gets hammered for how their intent to “help” other countries usually ends up (from cultures outside the US) very invasive/patronizing/self-righteous/insensitive to cultures/theologies different from our own? I wonder if that applied to the Moon Kingdom towards Elysion, at least a little bit.

Anyhoo, semi-humorous take on the situation below — Part 1: Prequel

Oh, this! So much!

I never knew what this whiny “but look, they spy on us! Have you seen the traffic that MapCrunch Earth gets from the moon? We want to mapcrunch their place right now, or there will be munity!”

or whatever their problem was. It sounded so random.

But your explanation makes perfect sense.

I wouldn’t readily trust this Moon kingdom either.

Hehe, best part is “so if we all mistrust you minus one, then we all are brainwashed, even if some of us *cough, cough* are madly in love with Moonians too? Is that your official line of politics?”

Oh, I need to see the next part!

I should get back to articulating this thought process, mostly as humor, at some point.

Well, people sure are having fun with the new Sailor Moon teaser image…

The basketball one is the best so far! XD

But the sandwich one is probably canon.

I hadn't even realized it was a sword. I thought it was the Crystal Tokyo tower. But oh my god now that I see it's a sword I am just that much more hype. Holy Sword. Holy Swooooooord!!!!!

Yes, yes, yes!

First Image for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon

Toei Animation has released the first image for the new Sailor Moon anime. In addition to the shot of Usagi above, the full image also included a list of the main staff, a synopsis, and a reminder that show will premiere in July 2014 and will stream simultaneously worldwide on the Niconico website.

Usagi Tsukino is a second-year middle school girl who is a little clumsy and a crybaby, but she is full of energy. One day, she meets Luna, a black cat with a crescent moon on her forehead, and she transforms into Sailor Moon, a sailor-uniformed pretty guardian of love and justice! As a chosen guardian of justice, Usagi seems to have a mission to find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other guardians and to protect the princess.

Meanwhile, the queen of the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl, also sends minions to the town where Usagi lives to obtain the Illusionary Silver Crystal, which has immense power. This causes strange events to unfold….

Can Sailor Moon really find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other Sailor guardians, and protect the princess…!?

A countdown on the anime’s official website, with the words “eight days left…” and an image of a waxing moon, is set to launch tomorrow, so expect more news about the new series next Saturday.

The full image with the (translated above) summary appears to have been removed from the site now, indicating it being up earlier was most likely an unintentional leak, but this is the internet, it’s hard to kill these things.

Personally, given the very detailed nature of this art, I suspect it is still concept art and not quite exactly what we will be seeing on screen. The animation will likely be simplified a bit further. I am happy to see that it indicates they did decide to NOT make the new series along the currently popular “moe” style themes, but that’s a personal taste.

It does not escape my notice that the “t” in Crystal looks like a sword. Gimme the holy sword in anime. Yes.

Sailor moon wands!!!
you know there’s a reason the new sailor moon anime keeps getting delayed

because people aren’t buying the damn POP-TARTS

There are Sailor Moon pop tarts? D:

Sit, young child, and listen to the stories of the dark times.

In the days of old, when there was only DiC and only the first two seasons had been dubbed in English (and the second was incomplete, at that), a website arose to rally fans to fight for more Sailor Moon to be dubbed.  This was called Save Our Sailors (S.O.S.).  Mostly they had petitions and letter campaigns, and posted misleading articles about all the things we were missing out on in the full Japanese version of the show.

The most legendary and misguided of their campaigns was the Pop-Tart campaign.  The idea, I believe, was that because Pop-Tarts ran a commercial during the time when Sailor Moon aired every day, we should demonstrate how many fans are watching at that time by buying a lot of Pop-Tarts.  Ignoring the fact that Kelloggs is a massive corporation with many different advertising campaigns happening all at once, and that they were unlikely to make any connection between a slight spike in sales (if any spike were even detectable) and the particular cartoon that happened to be airing at a particular time slot when one of their commercials ran, fans were encouraged to run out and buy Pop-Tarts by the case.  I believe they were even supposed to buy a specific flavor.  Many unfortunate parents found themselves buying armloads of little Sally’s sugary breakfast slabs.

It did not do a darn thing, but that did not stop S.O.S. from taking credit when eventually more episodes were dubbed.

Maybe Mamoru dresses terribly on purpose to distract from his attractiveness and dissuade women from brainwashing him as their prince.

Well, that worked out…
